Don't Wait for the Storm to Pass

It was near Valentine’s Day and it was raining.  Tyler said to me that it should be sunny and warm on this day and not raining.  I replied by saying that we really should appreciate and celebrate the rain since in Southern California we live in a drought most of the year.   We had a bit of a walk to school and I have no rainboots.  I needed some!  He was giggling as I got soaked in the rivers, much less puddles, as we walked up to his school.

It reminded me of this quote:
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.

Literally this happened to us this morning.  We hopped, skipped, danced, and jumped in the rain. It was so much fun!  We giggled the whole walk up to his classroom.  It was a really great reminder.  Storms are unavoidable in our lives. Luckily, there are some stages where things are less rocky than others. 

We need to remember that we don’t want to sit back and do nothing.  If things are rough, don’t just wait for the storm to pass.  Find a way to “dance in the rain”.  Find a direction to focus where you have something that you are grateful for or brings you joy.  Mine is to go inward to find a sense of ease.  Tune in to who we are through meditation, prayer, or a time out in nature.  The things that help us find flow and be in the moment.  Then when the storms come, you are able to navigate your way through them in such a different way than you ever had the capacity to before.

Find joy even during contrast.  We can always find something to be upset about, and we can always look around to find something to be thankful for. For me, this is dancing in the rain.  Being able to shift focus in hard times.  Being able to make a conscious choice to feel the feelings but then choose to shift the focus to the positive. Choose to dance in the rain!
